How To Make Your Battery Last Longer?
DAVID POGUE, On Tuesday 24 May 2011, 1:48 SGT
A good friend of mine had been complaining that her iPhone 3GS battery was holding less and less of a charge. When we got together at 5 p.m. one recent day, it was at 5 percent full - and it had been fully charged that morning. She had barely used it all day. The phone was apparently running itself dry simply by being turned on.
The single biggest battery consumer is the screen brightness. But it wasn't especially bright on this phone.
So I suggested that she take the phone to an Apple store to get the $60 battery replacement service. In fact, there was an Apple store only two blocks away, so I accompanied her - and found out, upon arrival, that there is no $60 battery replacement service! There's one for iPods, but apparently not for the iPhone.
There are plenty of do-it-yourself and third-party battery-replacement services that advertise online, but the Apple store Genius, named Nicole, said none of that would be necessary. She tested the battery and found that it was perfectly fine!
Instead, Nicole pointed out a few things that were contributing to my friend's rapid battery depletion. I took notes and thought I'd pass them along.
* Push e-mail. This, I believe, was the big one. My friend has seven e-mail accounts, and her phone was checking each of them every 15 minutes. If you turn off the "Push" feature, and set it to Manually instead (in Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars->Fetch New Data), then your iPhone checks for e-mail only when you actually open the e-mail app. Your battery goes a lot farther.
(If you have a corporate Exchange account, your calendar and address-book data will similarly be updated only when you open those apps.)
* GPS checks. In Settings ->General->Location Services, you'll see a list of all the apps on your phone that are using your phone's location feature to know where you are. (It's a combination of GPS, cell-tower triangulation and, on some phones, Wi-Fi hotspot triangulation.) All of that checking uses battery power, too. My friend had dozens of apps with Location Services turned on, many of which didn't really need to be on. She turned most of them off.
* Notifications. Similarly, in Settings -> Notifications, you see a list of apps that are allowed to display pop-up notifications (those blue text bubbles that look like text messages). To do that, they have to monitor what's going on with your phone - and that takes juice. Turn off the ones you don't really need.
* Background apps. Nicole the Genius discovered that my friend had a huge number of apps open - maybe 40 of them. She maintained that they were using battery power, too, in the background.
Now, I kept my mouth shut. But I'd been led to believe that background apps are generally frozen into suspended animation precisely so that they don't use battery power. In fact, Apple was criticized when it introduced "multitasking" in the latest iPhone software, precisely because apps don't actually keep operating in the background. Only a few sanctioned features keep running in the background (Internet radio playback and GPS tracking, for example).
Even so, Nicole quit all 40 of the apps that were still open. (To do that, double-press the Home button to open the multitasking app switcher. Hold your finger down on any icon until they all start wiggling. Tap the little X close boxes to manually quit open apps.)
Did the Nicole treatment work? Very well indeed. The next day, my friend's battery, by the same time of day (5 p.m.), was still at 80 percent!
So there you go: How to make your iPhone battery last a lot longer. For free. You're welcome

To Laugh Or To Cry
I really have no idea where to start from. Today wasn't a really good day. I don't even know whether to laugh or to cry when I saw the children's results. The results were atrocious. I only know that I can blame myself for not being good enough of a tutor. I have already tried my best and maybe my best isn't enough to get them through, But no matter what happens I will try my upmost best to find ways to teach them well.

The History of Baba and Nyonya ( Tradition)
The History of Baba and Nyonya
(The descendants from Sino-Malay Intermarriage)
The origin of the Baba and Nyonya could be traced all the way back to the Chinese Ming Dynasty which is about more than 4 centuries ago.
It was the Princess Han Bao-li that left China to get married with the Sultan (King) of Malacca. The marriage established a kinship and diplomatic relationship between the two nations. At the same time, the famous Admiral Zheng He also stopped by Malacca and Singapore to make his diplomatic visits during his seven epic voyages to the South. These trips attained mutual communication and successfully paved the way for international trade thereafter.
Since then, many Chinese people started trading with or working in Malacca, Penang and Singapore. Some of them even settled down in these coastal cities and as most of these migrants were male, they started marrying the local Malay women which produced a unique culture. Their sons were then called "Baba" and their daughters were called "Nyonya".
Brought up in the cultural background and living habits of the both races, the Malay speaking Babas and Nyonyas in their "sarong" outfits not only keep their Chinese names, but also got accustomed to worshipping their ancestors and eating pork like every Chinese do. In addition, they also inherited the Chinese conventional idea of "men leaving the house to work and women staying at home". Thus, Nyonyas were all culinary experts before marriage and this was exactly the origin of Nyonya cuisine.
Nyonya food is also known as the Straits Chinese food which is an interesting amalgamation of Chinese and Malay dishes thought to have originated from the Peranakan (Straits Chinese) of Malacca. Besides Malacca, Nyonya food is also native to Penang and Singapore. However, over the years, distinct differences have evolved in the Nyonya recipes found in Penang than that in Malacca and Singapore due to the proximity of Malacca and Singapore to Indonesia and Penang to Thailand.
Influences aside, Nyonya recipes are complicated affairs, often requiring many hours of preparation and is about the blending of spices, using pungent roots like galangal, turmeric and ginger; aromatic leaves like pandan leaf and fragrant lime leaf together with other ingredients like candlenuts, shallots, shrimps paste and chilies. Lemon, tamarind, carambola and green mangoes are used to add a tangy taste to many dishes. For dessert, fruits are seldom served but instead colorful cakes are served. Nyonya cakes are rich and varied, often made from ingredients like sweet potato, glutinous rice, palm sugar and coconut milk.
Lucky Life
When you look around, have it ever come across to you that you are still lucky and have a good life. When i look around me, I always remind myself that I have been leading a really good and comfortable life. Despite its up & downs that I have encountered. I have such a pair of great parents who are willing to do anything for their children, a set of loving sisters although always fierce but in a good way cause they do care about me and great niece and nephews and a great baby daughter. Of course there are more people but I can't list all down here. In life there are always ups and downs, but there is one thing that I know is that you always have to cherish your love ones while you are alove and be greatful for whatever you get...........

Recomendation For Pet Vet From Small To Big Animals
Not that I am bragging but this vet that my neighbour recommended is really good. Last few days my dog was suffering from diahorrea and today morning it was the worst. It didn't want to eat the whole morning till afternoon. The vet just popped a de-worming pill and also some other medicine and well, he's back to normal. eating and drinking but still somewhat weak. Their service is good and their charges are reasonable.
